Dream Mist

$17.00

Dreamtime is an invitation to look into the liminal spaces and the stories that are creating our reality. Some cultures held the belief that nothing happens in the physical world that is not first set up in the dream world. I definitely view dreams as a peak behind the veil and an opportunity to examine the stories and archetypal energies playing out in our life. I had the idea to consciously invite plants into dream time with me to work on the archetypal level after my plantain experience. And this dream mist is what I created. The spray not only works well in the dream world, I often find myself reaching for it when entering liminal spaces or just when needing support in the physical world.

The herbs that are extracted in it are rabbit tobacco , cedar, mugwort, yarrow, and sage.

Archetypally, I’d say Rabbit tobacco is the messenger. Rabbit tobacco has a history of use in Southern Folk medicine as an herb that is healing to lung conditions and issues such as coughs, colds, and flus. It is mildly relaxing and its sweet smell is almost intoxicating. It helps us breathe. And breath is what brings us into the presence, can sharpen our awareness, and make us feel the connection with the life and energy around us.  Our lungs also hold grief and can be blocked by grief when we do not allow it to flow through with our breath. Breath is the difference between being alive and no longer living. Rabbit tobacco also has a unique characteristic in that it looks about the same both living and dead, hence another common name for it- “life everlasting.”

To me, rabbit tobacco in all its silvery whiteness and softness is like breath personified as a plant. And of course it is our breath that carries our words. Rabbit tobacco as a messenger seems to have a special focus- endings and beginnings and the connection between the two. Breath is a constant cycle of filling up and letting go and that seems to be where rabbit tobacco takes us- the edges of cycles and the liminal space in between. When diving deeper for this class, I found Hermes described as being as swift as a “breath of air” moving between heaven, earth, and the underworld. He is a liminal deity- one of the only who can traverse between the underworld and the world of the living any time he pleases. He does so to both guide souls and deliver messages. So I may say rabbit tobacco carries a Hermes energy as an even more specific archetype, bringing messages from our guides and loved ones beyond the veil.

Sage has long been worked with for spiritual and energetic cleaning. It is a silvery plant associated with the moon (so dreamtime, cycles, and feminine knowledge). Although people often think of white sage for spiritual cleansing and protection, I have found all sages to do the job, and garden sage is much easier to grow (and appropriate to work with for anyone).

Mugwort is another plant with strong moon associations. Its latin name is Artemesia vulgaris, after Artemis– the goddess of the moon. This herb has long been associated with liminal spaces and protection against dark forces. In Chinese medicine, mugwort is used in moxibustion to move stagnant chi. Mugwort, like the moon, is deeply connected to the cyclical nature of women. She can tune you into nature’s cycles of light and dark and help you harness them for your own growth.  I like to think of it as a plant that helps guide us through the darkness of shadow work

Cedar has long been associated with spiritual protection and purification. I have a cedar tree on my property I have always felt like is a protector for me. The cedar in this spray is a gift from her branches.

Yarrow’s scientific name is Achillea millefolium, after the warrior Achilles. Legend has it, Achilles used Yarrow to heal his wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Yarrow physically stops bleeding and seals and heals wounds. Many of those of us on the spiritual path are “bleeding hearts.” And while we want to keep our hearts open and flowing in many regards, we want to stop leaks of energy that bleed out our vital force. Yarrow is the friend of the empath who often feels drained or takes on too much that isn’t truly theirs. It helps us strengthen and seal our energetic boundaries.
