Description

This is the class I wish I had taken first in my herbal medicine journey! It is designed to give you the confidence to know how to utilize herbal medicines in appropriate forms, dosage, and situations. Because of the hands on nature of the course and limited space this go around, we are limiting the class size to 10 participants.

We will enjoy herb walks (weather permitting) around the farm or in the woods in order to help students become familiar with identifying common herbs that grow in our area.

We will start with the taste and mouth feel of herbs and how these two easy to assess qualities can guide you to know how the medicines may work in the body and indicate how to dose. We will then move on to how to make medicinal herbal teas and why it is normally done wrong IMO. Next is a dive into hot infusions, cold infusions, and when and how to utilize those. Finally we will make a yummy syrup (and maybe gummies!) all the while demonstrating and tasting the preparations.

We will round out week one with a deep dive into the making of tinctures, glycerites, oxymels, elixirs and why you might choose to do each. We will cover the ins and outs of making an effective dual extract mushroom tincture with a bonus lecture on medicinal mushrooms!

Week 2 will allow us a day to explore herbal topicals such as oils, salves, and liniments while making a salve together. Then we will cover nutrition as well as begin looking into constitutions and how this may play into herbal applications and diet.

We will wrap up our course with a day of “Home Herbal Apothecary” applying herbal medicines for common OTC complaints. Our very last day we will jump into plant intelligence and the imaginal realms with a day of plant spirit healing, essences making, story medicine, and soul healing (my personal favorite aspects of my journey with herbs).

And the best part?! We will feed you! No need to pack a lunch, we will demonstrate how food can be used as medicine with lunches, beverages, and maybe even some sweet treats!

Take this class with or without a “home herbal apothecary” kit with our healing salve and 5 tinctures that would work best for your family. This kit is available for $70 as an add on to the class, but is a $95 value.
