  • Intro to Permaculture & Tea Party
    11:00 am-2:00 pm
    01/15/2022
290 Porter Rd SE Bessemer, AL 35022

At Walden Farms we engage in a type of regenerative farming known as permaculture in which we believe in the intelligence of natural systems and thus try to mimic the way in which ecosystems grow.  We see ourselves as the conductor, choosing which plants will come together to create the symphony of our land.  Permaculture farms don’t look like what one may expect a farm to look like, but we love to share what we do with the public in hopes it will inspire!

Join us for a farm tour and intro to permaculture, after which we will have catering available from our friends at Sorelle along with drinks from Walden Farmacy available for purchase.  Bring a blanket or chair to sit on, or feel free to take food and drink to go if need be!

  • Birdsong Farmer’s Market
    9:00 am-1:00 pm
    01/22/2022
    2824 5th Ave South Birmingham

The Alabama Organic Family Farms Alliance was born when the three founding farms (Mountain Sun Farm, Belle Meadow Farm, and Snow’s Bend Farm) talked over lunch one January day in 2020.  We discussed the future of small, family farms and how best to preserve them – for those of us that enjoy eating well and for those that want to be farmers themselves one day.  We are a 501(c)5 non-profit organization.

In forming the AOFFA our goals are:

    • To make it simple for market shoppers and small farm supporters to know exactly who we are and what they are supporting when they buy from one of our member farms

    • To support each other and find ways of working together to ensure the future of our farms and other small farms like them

    • To share knowledge with each other and the larger community
